The behavior form and medical form that came home with the initial field trip letter are also due back to your child’s homeroom teacher by the 1st. If you have misplaced the forms, they can be found on our team weebly site: http://bmscoolcats.weebly.com
I just wanted to remind everyone that the $69 field trip deposit is due this Wednesday, October 1st if you have not already paid it. It is very important that the deposit be made on time. If the deposit is not paid, Kelly Tours will not hold a place on the bus for your child. When registering, you will need to reference trip # 8634. Also, when registering please remember to choose a T-shirt size for your child. If you have already registered, please go back online and make sure that you chose a shirt size.

Today I returned the unit 2A test. The grades have also been posted in Infinite Campus. Overall the grades were very good. Most students scored either an A or B. Students have been asked to bring the test home tonight for parents to see. In class this week, we will be completing some discovery activities that will lead up to students discovering the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. Students will begin using the rules to solve integer problems after fall break.
Nine week exams are this Wednesday and Thursday. Language Arts and Science will be on Wednesday and Math and Social Studies will be on Thursday. For 6th grade, these tests will just be chapter/unit tests for the first semester. For math, the test will cover the first part of unit 2 as well as some concepts from unit 1. Students can use their study guides, old quizzes, and old tests to prepare for the exam. Parents, due to an activity running a day over, the unit 2A test has been postponed to Friday. The study guide check over parts A, B, and F will also be on Friday.
This week we are finishing up graphing on the coordinate plane by reflecting over the x and y axes. The part A test is planned for Thursday. Thursday’s test will cover all unit 2 material covered up to this point (study guide parts A, B, & F). Students also have two quizzes in their binders that they can use as a review (real numbers & coordinate plane). Their spirals also contain several note pages that are all applicable to Thursday’s test. I will also conduct a mid check on the unit 2 study guide on Thursday. Answers to parts A, B, and F have already been posted for your child's benefit. An answer key to the unit 2 "I Can Statements" will be posted by tomorrow afternoon for those students who are completing these problems for extra practice.
Nine week exams are scheduled for Wednesday, October 1st and Thursday, October 2nd. Thursday’s test and next week’s exam will be the last significant opportunities that students will have to bring their grades up. At the end of the grading period, if a child’s average is not 75 or higher they are not considered to be in good academic standing, and they will be placed on academic watch or academic probation. This could eventually lead to being removed from the AC program. I love my students and want them all to succeed and be successful and remain in my class, so please make sure that they are preparing and getting ready for these last two big assessments at home. Remember the only way to truly study for math is to work out math problems, so have your child utilize some of the sites on this Weebly site. Today the Real Number’s Quiz was returned. As a whole, the grades were good! These grades have also already been posted in Infinite Campus. I have asked the students to bring the quiz home and share it with you. Today we began learning to graph on the coordinate plane. I have a quiz planned for this Friday. This quiz will cover coordinate graphing as well as still being able to classify real numbers and being able to graph them on a number line. In order to prepare, students can use the quiz passed back today as well as numbers 80-88 on the study guide. These are the type of problems students should have knowledge of.
I need to move tutoring to Thursday this week. This week during tutoring, I will focus on going over the unit 1 retest for those students who did not perform well. If your child would like to attend tutoring, please let me know by note or email. I also posted the 2nd challenge problem today. This problem is due no later than the 23rd.
Today I returned the unit 1 math test. The students were instructed to bring it home tonight and share it with you. Please sit down and
go over the test with your child in the next couple of nights. We went over all of the correct answers in class today. I have decided to offer a retake opportunity for the unit 1 test. Students were given contracts today (if they chose to get one) to bring home and have signed. Contracts must be returned before students are allowed to retake the test. Testing will take place after school from 3:00 - 4:30 on the 9th, 10th, and 11th. To sign up to retest you will need to visit http://signupgenius.com and sign up for the one day that works best for your schedule. A link is also available under the websites tab. Once you have accessed signupgenius.com:
Parents check out the new "calendar" tab. Along with noting in the updates, I will also post important dates here for your convenience.
Today students are finishing up their unit 1 test. Look for this test to come home in the next day or two. Infinite Campus will also be updated in the next day or two to reflect this test grade. Be sure to check Infinite Campus because tomorrow's progress report grade does not reflect this assessment.
We will begin unit 2 (Rational Numbers) tomorrow. Your child will receive the unit 2 study guide tomorrow. This study guide is meant to be a work in progress. Students should complete portions of the study guide as topics are presented in class. Students will have approximately 4 weeks in which to complete the study guide. The study guide has already been posted under the corresponding tab. I have also posted "I can statements" for unit 2. This is not an assignment that I will take up for a grade, but it can be used at home as another means of studying. In class, students will learn to classify numbers in the Real Number system as either being rational or irrational. We will also sub-divide rational numbers into integers, whole numbers, and natural numbers. Notes for this topic can be found in your child's spiral notebook. |
