  • The GCF/LCM quizzes will be returned on Wednesday. I will go over all of the answers in class and students will allowed to ask questions and get clarification if needed. Your child should bring home the quiz for you to see. The grades will be posted to Infinite Campus by the end of the week, so please check out your child's current average.
  • This week we are learning about the distributive property and beginning dividing fractions. Students will learn to model and use the standard algorithm. Below I am including the lesson on distributive property.
  • Due to professional learning I must attend, I will not have tutoring on Wednesday this week. Because of this, I have posted some GCF/LCM practice, along with answers, under the extra practice tab. If your child struggled with the last quiz, please have them complete this practice at home. The I Can Statements are also a great source for extra practice. That answer key is also included.
  • Please make sure that your child is diligently working on their unit 1 study guide. By now students should have parts A, B, and C complete. By the end of the week, they can also complete part E and the modeling portion of part D.

This week we are continuing our study of GCF and LCM.  A quiz over these concepts will be given on either Thursday or Friday of this week. The quiz will also contain a review section over decimals.  Expect word problems that will show knowledge and application of concepts. Next week we will cover the distributive property and then move into dividing fractions.

As for the study guide, students should have completed and checked parts A and B. The answers are posted to this site under "study guides".

At this time, I am not able to enter grades in Infinite Campus due to an error beyond my control. Someone from the county office is trying to resolve the issue. I will enter grades as soon as I can. I am very sorry for the delay.

1.    Last Friday's decimal quiz was returned today. We went over the correct answers in class and students  were asked to bring the quiz home tonight for you to see. If your child did not perform well, please sit down and go over the quiz again with them. I noticed many students were having difficulties borrowing when subtracting and making  multiplication errors. Many students are also struggling with
the process of long division, especially when the divisor is also a decimal. This material will be seen again on future quizzes and  tests. Below are two websites in addition to the online textbook that you
can use at home to help your children. These sites are also included under "helpful websites".
    • This is a website that lets students practice their multiplication facts. It
will help them work on learning them as well as their speed. It allows
them to practice a mixture or focus on specific tables.

      www.teachingtables.co.uk/timetable/tgame1.html
    • This website creates worksheets for a variety of skills. It creates worksheets
in a variety of formats and on many of them you can stipulate what you
want. It is fast and no two worksheets are the same. This means you can
create many forms of the same worksheet.

2.    Please  remember to check your child’s agenda each night. Homework is now being given and several students have already received zeros or incompletes.

3.  Also please make sure that your child is keeping up with their unit 1 study guide so  that is does not become overwhelming for them. Part A should be complete by now and we will begin looking at Part B concepts later in the week. The students are currently completing a performance task where they are planning a fictitious trip to Six Flags over Texas based on their understanding of decimal concepts.

4. Infinite Campus is now OPEN !!!
Please set up an account and check out your child's grades (Instructions are under "helpful documents"). Infinite Campus is updated on a weekly basis. Current math grades will be entered by the end of the week.

Let me begin by saying that we have gotten off to a wonderful start in AC math this year, and a HUGE thanks to those of you who donated supplies. It is GREATLY appreciated!!!  We are currently in unit 1 (Number Sense Fluency). In this unit we cover:

  • operations with decimals
  • factors/multiples
  • GCF/LCM
  • Distributive property
  • Dividing Fractions  (modeling&
    algorithm)
  • Converting fractions to decimals

The students were given their study guides for unit 1 last week. This is to be completed over the course of unit 1 (approx. 5 weeks). I have instructed the students to begin now and complete a few problems each night, as concepts are covered, so that it doesn’t become overwhelming.  Study guides will always be assigned at the beginning of a unit and be due the day before the unit test. I don’t have an exact date for the unit 1 test at this time, but I will let you and the students know an exact date as the time draws closer. The study guide is also located under the study guide tab in case your child loses theirs and needs to print another one. I have also posted the answers to the study guide, so students may check their understanding while working and preparing for quizzes during the course of the unit. This will also allow students the opportunity to ask me questions along the way if needed. Since answers are posted, all work must be included.

Homework is now being assigned, so check your child’s agenda nightly to help ensure that they are prepared for class the next day. Homework is worth five points and is graded for completion.

This week we are reviewing operations with decimals, and the first quiz is planned for Thursday/ Friday (11th or 12th) depending on the readiness of the students. Your child has notes and practice problems in their math spirals and binders to assist them with studying. Helpful math websites are also posted on this site. The strategy of long division is a 6th grade standard that must be mastered while dividing decimals. If your child is struggling with this strategy, I have posted a couple of instructional videos under the videos tab.

I will post updates here on a regular basis, so be sure to check weekly to stay current on what is going on in AC math. We also have a team weebly site that can be accessed for further information.

I know this is a lot of information at once, so if you have questions please don't hesitate to email. Thanks for  a great start!

Don't forget open house is on August 16th from 6:00-7:30.
