This week we are finishing up solving proportions and proportional relationships. The students are quizzing today over word problems using several strategies learned in class. During the last couple of weeks, we have also been covering how to convert between fractions, decimals, and percents. This topic is necessary for students to solve problems involving percent that we will also be covering this week and next. Conversion chart #1 has been assigned tonight as homework with the conversion chart #2 also being included as extra practice if needed. The answers are posted below for chart #2 if your child decides to complete it. We will be wrapping up unit 4 next week and testing. I will post a specific date soon; however, with the unit nearing an end, please make sure that your child is up-to-date with his or her study guide. The answers will be posted soon. As of today, students are able to complete all parts except for E, F, and 82-83.

This week we have been learning to set up and solve proportions. Most recently we have been applying proportional relationships to real-life scenarios. Students have learned to use tape diagrams, double number lines, tables, and proportions to solve proportional word problems. A word problem quiz is planned for Tuesday. We have practiced a lot in class, but several students have inquired about wanting more practice, so I am attaching some practice problems along with the answers. These problems are not required but may be used to help prepare students for Tuesday’s quiz.
Last week our focus was on recognizing and solving proportions. A quiz is planned for tomorrow covering these topics. The quiz will also contain review material from the quiz taken last week. This week we will focus on using proportions and other methods such as tape diagrams and double number lines to solve real life application problems. Real life application problems can be difficult for many students, so for extra practice please utilize the I Can Statements posted under Helpful Documents. I will have the answers posted this week for your use. Please continue to monitor your child's progress on their study guide. By the end of the week they should be able to complete sections A - D.
Last week we began unit 4 (ratios, rates, and proportions). The study guide and I Can Statements have been posted for you to see. Students will receive a hard copy of the study guide this week. It will take us approximately 4 weeks to complete this unit, so please help to monitor your child closely to make sure they are completing their study guide as topics are covered in class. A quiz is planned for Tuesday or Wednesday of this week depending on whether or not students complete the Scavenger Hunt activity on Monday. In order to prepare for the quiz, students should be able to complete problems similar to Part A on the study guide. This week we are also learning how to identify and solve proportions. During A squared we will review and learn how to convert between fractions, decimals, and percents.
