This week we are finishing up unit 5 and testing. Students are learning about functions and how to identify direct variations. Students will also learn to identify dependent and independent variables as well as graph equations. The test and spiral check will be on Friday, the 25th. The spiral check will cover units 4 and 5. The study guide is due on Thursday. The entire study guide should be complete as well as checked. The answers can be found here on Weebly. Extra practice can be found by completing problems on the "I Can Statements" located under the extra practice tab.
This week we are continuing with unit 5 by learning what proportions are, how to solve proportions for an unknown, and how proportions can be used to help problem solve. This week students should be working on and checking part B of the study guide.
Midterms are Thursday and Friday. Science and social studies will be given on Thursday and math and ELA will be given on Friday. To prepare for math, students should know how to answer problems similar to parts A and B on the unit 5 study guide as well as equations and inequalities from unit 4. We are on track to complete unit 5 and test by spring break. This week and next I am spending time with the students familiarizing them with the online version of the GA Milestones test. This year all students will be taking the test on the computer. 6th grade will test the week of April 25th. I have created a new tab above entitled GA Milestones. Here, I will begin to post items students can use at home to prepare for the big test. Today I posted the PowerPoint we used in class to practice navigating the online test. Students can also practice this at home. I have also posted the 6th grade math formula page that students will have access to while testing. Students also have a copy of this page taped in their math spiral.
Monday I returned the unit 4 test. We spent the class period thoroughly going over and reviewing the test. Students were asked to bring the test home for their parents to see. The grades will be in Infinite Campus by the end of the week. We will spend the remainder of the week beginning unit 5: ratios and proportions. This week we will cover what ratios are, how to problem solve using rations, and how to calculate unit rates. The unit 5 study guide has already been passed out and students will be capable of completing all of Part A by the end of the week. The answers have already been posted so students may check their work as they complete the study guide.
Mid terms exams will be on the 10th and 11th. A schedule will be posted as soon as I receive one from the front office. |
