This week we are beginning unit 4: Equations and Inequalities. We will begin by learning to solve one-step equations by making sure we keep the equation balanced at all times like a see saw on the playground. This unit will only last about two weeks, so it is important that students keep up with their study guides. Study guides were passed out on Tuesday, and answers are already posted to Weebly. #'s 5-16 have been assigned for Wednesday night.

I will also be returning the unit 3 test this week, so look for it to come home by the end of the week.

The unit 3 test is scheduled for Thursday, the 25th. I will also take up math spirals for a spiral check that day. In preparation for the test, the unit 3 study guide is due on Wednesday. The students should have completed the study guide and checked against the answer key here on Weebly.

This week we are continuing to identify and generate equivalent expressions. Students will be asked to demonstrate their understanding of this concept during the week, so students should be reviewing their notes nightly. We will wrap up the week by learning to simplify expressions by using the distributive property and combining like terms. We will test over unit three next week, so more details will be coming soon. In preparation for this test, students should be completing study guide #'s 76 - 84. Answers are posted here to Weebly for the students' benefit.

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, students will be taking round 2 of the MAPS assessment. This is an assessment given three times a year to show students' growth over the course of a school year.

During the remainder of the week, we will continue with the distributive and use this property to write and identify equivalent expressions.

Report cards will go home on Tuesday, the 9th.

Friday, the 12th, is our trip to the Fox Theater to see the Lion King.
