There are only three weeks left until Christmas break and final exams will be given on the 17th and 18th, so please do not plan on going out of town and beginning the holiday season early. Unexcused absences will result in zeros on exams. As the time gets closer, I will let students know exactly what material will be covered on the exam.
Today we went over the unit 2 test that was returned before the break. The grades have already been put in Infinite Campus for you to view. The students have been asked to bring their tests home this evening for you to see and go over. We have officially begun unit 3. We have already begun adding notes to our spirals, and the unit 3 study guide will be handed out tomorrow. A copy is also posted here to Weebly. This week I am reviewing the basics of exponents taught last year and introducing students to exponents with negative bases. For the remainder of the week, we will continue to review exponents as well as review and practice simplifying expressions containing negative numbers by using the order of operations.

This week we are finishing up unit 2 and testing. The study guide is due on Tuesday, the 17th. By Tuesday, the study guide should be complete with appropriate work shown and the answers should be checked. Answers can be found under the study guide tab. In order to receive full credit, proof that the study guide was checked at home should be evident. I have spoken with the students about how to show proof. The next spiral check will be on Wednesday, the 18th. We will also test on the 18th. The test should be graded and returned before Thanksgiving break, so please look for the test to come home by the end of next week.
Today we are quizzing over adding and subtracting integers. This grade, as well as a couple of others, will be added to Infinite Campus this week, so please log in and check out your child's average by the end of the week.
We will also be completing unit 2 this week by learning to multiply and divide integers using both models and rules. Due to the holiday on Wednesday, we will probably not test unit 2 this week, but I do plan on testing early next week. I will let you know an exact date as soon as I can. As for the study guide, every section should be complete as of today except for Part D and #'s 76-79. These items should be complete by the end of the week. The study guide will be due next week before we test. This week we are wrapping up discovery activities and discovering the rules for adding and subtracting integers. The rules, as well as a song to help remember them, can be found in the students' spirals. We will also spend time focusing on word problems where students have to add and subtract integers. A quiz over these topics is planned for Friday. Part C and #'s 72-74 on the study guide cover the topics being covered on the quiz.
After Friday's quiz, we have only one topic left to cover in the unit, multiplying and dividing integers, so please make sure your child is up-to-date with the study guide. We will probably test next week. I will let you know the date as we get closer. Progress reports for the 12 weeks go home on Wednesday. |
