Week of August 28th

The GCF/LCM quiz from last week was returned on Friday. Students were instructed to take the quiz home and share with their parents. If your child struggled with this quiz, I am posting some extra practice along with the answers under the study guide/extra practice tab. Please have them complete this practice work at home. I am also posting the "I Can Statements" for this unit. These serve as more at home practice for the students. The answers are also posted.

This week we will continue with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals.  I will also post extra practice for these concepts. In middle school students are expected to master long division. If your child struggles with this strategy, I have posted a couple of videos under the videos tab. This week students can work on completing Part A of the study guide. This part correlates with what is being covered in class.

During A squared this week, students are learning how to access Microsoft One Note through Office 365. At this time, students have the capability of accessing their math spiral at home. Please have your child show you what they learned about One Note this week in A squared. Here are the steps to access One Note:
1. Go to Office 365 (search Google)
2. Enter the student school email address/password taped in spiral.
3. Click One Note
4. Click Content Library
5. Click Math Spiral

Today, Monday, students are taking the GCF/LCM quiz that was postponed last week. Look for those grades to be posted later this week in Infinite Campus. Once graded, papers will always be returned to students so parents may review with their children. Tuesday, we will begin covering using the GCF to rewrite problems using the distributive property. Notes and examples will be available in the math spiral. The last part of the week will be used to review operations with decimals, including dividing using long division. The strategy of long division is a 6th grade standard that must be mastered while dividing decimals. If your child is struggling with this strategy, I have posted a couple of instructional videos under the videos tab.

As we are covering unit 1, please make sure that your child is completing and checking their math study guide. This week's topics correlate to Parts A and C.

The students were given their study guides for unit 1 last week. This is to be completed over the course of unit 1 (approx. 6 weeks). I have instructed the students to begin now and complete a few problems each night, as concepts are covered, so that it doesn’t become overwhelming.  Study guides will always be assigned at the beginning of a unit and be due the day before the unit test. I don’t have an exact date for the unit 1 test at this time, but I will let you and the students know an exact date as the time draws closer. The study guide is also located under the study guide tab in case your child loses theirs and needs to print another one. I have also posted the answers to the study guide, so students may check their understanding while working and preparing for quizzes during the course of the unit. This will also allow students the opportunity to ask me questions along the way if needed. Since answers are posted, all work must be included.

Homework is now being assigned, so check your child’s agenda nightly to help ensure that they are prepared for class the next day. Homework is worth five points and is graded for completion.

This week and last we are reviewing GCF and LCM, and the first quiz is planned for Thursday the 17th. Your child has notes and practice problems in their math spirals and binders to assist them with studying. Helpful math websites are also posted on this site.

I will post updates here on a regular basis, so be sure to check weekly to stay current on what is going on in AC math
