This week we are finishing up Unit 6 and testing. I am checking the study guide for completion on Monday and going over any concerns. We will test on Tuesday. We will spend the last three days of the week finishing up statistics and graphs. Students will learn how to create and read box plots. We will also review the other graphs we learned during Jag Academy...dot plots and histograms.
Students have a histogram practice sheet that is due during Jag Academy this week. Their practice Milestone test is also due this week. The entire test should be complete and entered into Edulastic by Thursday. Students should NOT hit submit yet, because they will have the opportunity to make corrections Thursday night. Corrections should be made Thursday night, and students may then hit the submit button. Next week is Milestone testing week for 6th grade!!! This week we are finishing area of composite/complex figures. A take home quiz will be sent home on Monday night. Students may use calculators and their spirals, but may not receive any other assistance. We will then move on to calculating surface area of rectangular and triangular prisms and volume of rectangular prisms and cubes. We will make sure to spend extra time calculating volume with fractional edges.
I am planning on testing Unit 6 on Tuesday, the 16th. This would make the study guide due on the 15th. Please make sure your child is slowly working on the study guide a little each night. The answers are posted here to Weebly. Students should also still be working on the Milestone Practice test that was sent home last week. Instructions can be found under the Georgia Milestone tab at the top of the page. Students are also being given a homework assignment in Jag Academy this week that will be due next week in Jag Academy. The Unit 5 test was returned on Monday and will be gone over in class on Tuesday. The grades have been posted in Infinite Campus. In class we are continuing our study of Unit 6 which we began right before spring break. We are discovering area formulas for parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids. We will use these formulas to find the area of complex/composite figures. Towards the end of the week, we will use nets of 3-D figures to help us calculate surface area. Notes for all of this can be found in the students' spirals and on One Note.
The Unit 6 study guide will go home later this week, so look for it to begin coming home. Students should complete problems as topics are covered in class. The answers will be posted here to Weebly. I will also be assigning a Georgia Milestone's practice test for students to complete at home over the next 2-3 weeks. This test will be accessed through the Edulastic website. Students are familiar with this site and have used it before. The assignment is required and will be taken for a grade. I will post specifics later this week. |
