Monday, I returned the Exponents and Order of Operations quiz. We went over the quiz in class, and students were asked to bring the quiz home for you to see.
This week were are reading, writing, and evaluating algebraic expressions. Notes and examples can be found in the students' spiral notebooks. Next Wednesday, the 19th, marks the end of the semester; therefore, exams are planned for Tuesday and Wednesday. 2nd and 4th periods will test on Tuesday and 1st and 3rd periods will test on Wednesday. The exam will cover all concepts covered so far in unit 3. The topics that will be covered from unit 3 can be found in parts A, B, and C on the unit 3 study guide. Students could also see questions from previous units so students should look over their unit 1 and 2 tests also. This week the students are participating in activities to reinforce what was taught last week...simplifying expressions by using the Order of Operations (GEMDAS). A quiz is planned for Wednesday. The quiz will cover parts A and B of the study guide. I will then spend the remainder of the week teaching the parts of an expression and how to write algebraic expressions. Notes for these concepts can be found in the students' spiral notebooks.
Semester exams will be given on December 18th and 19th with the 19th being a 1/2 day for the students. More information concerning the testing schedule will be given as I am given the specifics from the front office. The Winterfest Dance sponsored by the math department is this Friday, the 7th from 3:00 - 5:00 in the gym. Thanks to everyone who has donated items for this occasion. At this point, we have plenty of plates and napkins but are short on can drinks. If you are able to donate can soft drinks of any type, it will definitely be appreciated. Donations can be brought to my room at your convenience. |
