Friday I returned the exponent and Order of Operation’s quiz that was given last week. Students were given all of the correct answers and were given the opportunity to have any questions answered. These grades have also been posted in Infinite Campus. In class we are translating verbal phrases to algebraic expressions. We will continue to practice this concept this week as well as continue reviewing how to identify terms, constants, and coefficients. Friday marks the end of the semester; therefore, exams are planned for Thursday and Friday. 1st and 3rd periods will test on Thursday and 2nd and 4th periods will test on Friday. The exam will cover all concepts covered so far in unit 3 and well as material from units 1 and 2. Students should still have their study guides and tests/quizzes from units 1 and 2 to help them prepare. The topics that will be covered from unit 3 can be found in parts A, B, and #'s 41-51 on the unit 3 study guide.. Please help me to encourage your child to practice problems each night so they will be successful on Friday’s test. I have also posted answers to the to the unit 3 study guide which coincide with the topics being tested on Thursday and Friday.

Below is the answer key to the order of operations practice page that was assigned for homework on the 7th. Many students asked to have access to it at home.
This week we are continuing to simplify expressions by using the order of operations (GEMDAS). A quiz is planned for Wednesday. We will then learn to identify parts of an expression (constant, term, coefficient, etc.). Please make sure that your child has begun working on their unit 3 study guide. Students should be completing parts A and B in order to prepare for Wednesday's quiz.
Please also remember that final exams will be given on December 17th and 18th. 1st and 3rd period exams will be given on Thursday and 2nd and 4th period exams will be given on Friday. Unexcused absences will receive zeros on exams so please make sure that your child will be present for the exams. It is time again for the math department to hold its annual Winterfest at BMS dance. The dance is Friday, December 11th, from 3:00 – 5:30. All proceeds go towards purchasing math instructional supplies. To keep our costs low and maximize our profits, so we may purchase as many supplies as possible, we are asking parents to donate can drinks. Any donations that you can send in will be greatly appreciated. Donations can be brought to my room. Drinks, pizza, and candy will be available to purchase. We will also be selling Santa and elf hats. |
