Midterms are coming up on October 4th and 5th. More information to come.
The unit 1 test will be returned to the students on Tuesday. We will go over the test in class, and students will be expected to bring the test home that night. Please look for the test on Tuesday afternoon. This week we are beginning unit 2: Rational Numbers. Students will be learning what integers and opposites are. How to compare and order integers and how to relate integers to real-world scenarios. Students will also learn how to calculate absolute value this week. By Wednesday, students will receive their unit 2 study guide. Just like unit 1, students should complete the study guide as topics are taught in class. After students receive the study guide in class, it will also be posted here to Weebly along with the answers.

This week is testing week. The unit 1 study guide is Wednesday. The study guide should be complete, all work shown, have correct answers, and proof of checking be evident. Thursday students will have their unit 1 spiral check. Students should use the rubric located in the front of their spiral and the spiral on Microsoft One Note to ensure their spiral is ready to be graded. The unit 1 test will be given on Thursday. Students should use their study guides, old quizzes/homework, and Weebly extra practice to help prepare for their test.
This week is a short week due to hurricane Irma. Wednesday, students will be wrapping up the Lemonade task they have been working on in class. Thursday, students will learn how to convert fractions to decimals and how this concept can be used to convert their grades in class to percentages. Friday, we will review adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions so next week we can learn the algorithm for dividing fractions. This will end the unit. At this time, the unit 1 study guide will be due on Wednesday, the 20th. The entire study guide should be complete along with the corresponding work. As of today, all portions of the study guide should be complete except sections D and E. If your child is behind on his or her study guide, please make sure they are catching up so it is complete by the 20th. Answers are posted, so please make sure your child has also checked their study guides prior to turning them in. On Thursday, students will have their first spiral notebook check. The rubric can be found on the inside pocket. Your child also has access to the spiral by logging into Office 365 and One Note. Use the notebook on One Note to ensure your child's spiral is complete before turning it in.
The unit 1 test will be on the 20th. It will cover all of unit 1. I am in the process of grading today's decimal quiz. I am noticing many students are having difficulties borrowing when subtracting and making multiplication errors. Many students are also struggling with the process of long division, especially when the divisor is also a decimal. This material will be seen again on future quizzes and tests. Students will have decimal homework Thursday night and over the weekend to continue practicing these concepts. The quizzes will be returned to the students by Friday, so please look for them to come home so you may review with your child. I have posted several long division and dividing decimal videos here to Weebly for your child to use at home. There is also a decimal practice packet under the extra practice tab. Below are two websites in addition to the online textbook that you can use at home to help your children. These sites are also included under "helpful websites".
This week we are finishing up operations with decimals. A quiz will be given on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing on Wednesday. I will also probably throw in some GCF and LCM as a review. In order to prepare, students can use their study guides, the "I Can Statements", and extra practice included on this site. Answers to all of the practice can also be found here on Weebly. Thursday, I will introduce converting fractions to decimals and discuss the difference between terminating and repeating decimals.
