Due to technical difficulties, I am not able to post the extra practice as promised; therefore, I will send out an email with the practice problems.

This week we are finishing unit 6 by covering surface and volume. The study guide is due on Thursday. The answers are already posted, so your child can begin checking as needed. The test will be given on Friday. There will not be a spiral check this unit. I will conduct a combined spiral check with units 6 and 7 after we complete unit 7. Tutoring will be held during A squared again this week on Wednesday. If your child needs assistance, they will need to see me during this time. They will need to bring with them the specific questions/concerns that they have.
This week we are beginning unit 6: Area and Volume. The students were given their new study guides yesterday. Students may use calculators on this study guide as long as I can see their steps/work on their paper. Students will only have two weeks to complete this study guide. Because of this, students will need to stay on top of their study guide and complete problems as topics are covered in class. We will test over unit 6 before spring break. This week we are covering area of triangles, quadrilaterals, and irregular figures. A quiz over this material is planned for Thursday/Friday of this week. As for tutoring, please be sure to check out yesterday's post.
Because of a change in the A squared schedule here at school, I will not hold tutoring after school this week or next. Instead, tutoring will be taken care of during A squared for those students who need it. If your child needs help, they can come see me during A squared this Wednesday and next. There is no need for students to stay after school, if they have 45 minutes of free/homeroom time for the next two weeks. As usual, students will still need to bring with them the specific assignment that they wish to work on.
This week marks the end of the 3rd nine weeks grading period. We will finish up unit 5 and test on Thursday. The study guide is due on Wednesday. The entire study guide should be completed and checked by then. I will also conduct a spiral check on Thursday.
This week we finished up inequalities and began covering direct variations. Section D on the study guide covers inequalities, but I am also attaching three more sheets with answers that can also be used for extra practice if your child needs it.
In class today we are continuing to review, practice, and get ready for tomorrow's function quiz. I am attaching a couple of PowerPoint's that your child can go through tonight if they choose to. One slide show has slides of tables, graphs, and equations that need to be matched up. This is an activity that we are completing in class today, but your child may want to look at these slides again tonight. The other presentation just contains some review problems with answers.
This week we will continue our discussion of functions. Students should be able to describe functions from coordinates, tables, equations, and graphs. Students should also be able to tell how the independent and dependent variables of functions are related. A quiz over this material is scheduled for Wednesday/Thursday, depending on how quick the students show understanding of the material. Please check with your child for the exact date. Section B of the study guide is a great section to use for review. We will finish up this unit by the end of next week, and be ready to test, so please make sure that your child is keeping up with their study guide. By the end of the week, students will be capable of completing sections A, B, D, and #'s 58-63.
