This week we are continuing to solve one-step equations. We will continue by learning to read word problems that require an equation to be written in order to find the answer. A equation quiz is planned for Thursday. The quiz will be similar to section A of the study guide.
In class today, we practiced solving one step equations by taking an online quiz, using devices, at Socrative.com. I am attaching a hard copy of those problems, along with the answers, in case your child would like to go back through them as extra practice at home. As homework, students were asked to complete #'s 9-20 on their study guides and to also go ahead and check the problems with the answers posted to Weebly.
Because of the short week, A squared is going to be a study hall/reading time/make up work time this morning; therefore, I announced to all students that there would be no need for after school tutoring today. If students were going to stay after school for help, they were given the opportunity to come to me during the 35-40 minute A squared time today for help if needed.
As for class, we will be solving one-step equations this week. Students will learn the proper algebraic way to solve equations by keeping the equation balanced at all times. Students will also need their devices this week/tomorrow for an activity. This week students can be working on Part A of their study guide. The unit 4 test, as well as a quiz, were returned last week to the students and answers were given in class. Students were also allowed to ask as many questions as necessary. The grades have been posted in Infinite Campus for you to view. Please log in to view your child's grades, because the progress report grade that came home last week is now more accurate. Parents due to a change in schedule, I will not hold tutoring this Wednesday afternoon. If your child is struggling with writing expressions from tables, they can come see me for a working lunch on Wednesday. Just like afternoon tutoring, they need to bring with them what they want to work on during the tutoring session.
This week we will be begin unit 5: Equations and Inequalities. On Tuesday, the students will receive the new study guide. The study is posted here for you to view also. During the week, we will learn how to write expressions from tables as well as learn to solve one-step equations. A quiz is planned for Thursday on writing expressions from tables. The unit 4 test will also be given back this week and gone over thoroughly in class. Look for this test to come home about Wednesday. Progress reports also went home today. This average does not reflect the unit 4 test, so after the test comes home this week, please check Infinite Campus to get an up-to-date average for your child.
I am attaching some percent word problems that we worked on in class today as a review for tomorrow's test. Your child may work through them at home for extra practice if they wish. I also suggested to students to work through some of the "I Can Statements" posted here to Weebly as a means of studying for the test. The answers are also posted.
This week we are finishing up unit 4 and testing. The unit 4 study guide is due Wednesday. By Wednesday, the study guide should be completed and checked. The answers have been posted. The test is on Thursday. There will also be a spiral check on Thursday.
