Midterm exams are this Thursday and Friday. Language Arts and Science will be on Thursday and Math and Social Studies will be on Friday. For 6th grade, these tests will just be chapter/unit tests. For math, the test will cover the first part of unit 2 as well as some concepts from unit 1. For unit 2, students should be familiar with parts A, B, and #'s 80-88 in part F. I have also posted answers to the first part of the unit 2 study guide here to Weebly. Students can use their study guides, old quizzes, and old tests to prepare for the exam. Remember, extra practice can always be found under the extra practice tab.
This week we are applying absolute value to real-life situations. We will then learn to graph on the coordinate plane. Notes for both of these concepts can be found in the students' spiral notebooks.

Per my conversation with the students today, I have posted some converting fractions to decimals practice under the extra practice tab. The answers are included. This is a unit one topic that students will see again on Friday's midterm.
Today we finished our discussion of real numbers and how to classify them. We summed up the lesson by taking a mini quiz. This quiz will be returned to students in the next day or two, so please look for this assessment to come home and appear in Infinite Campus.
We will continue in unit 2 this week by learning the basics of integers and absolute value. Students will also learn how to compare and order rational numbers. Students will have notes on these topics in their math spirals for support at home. Midterms are scheduled for Thursday, October 1st and Friday, October 2nd. Language Arts and Science will be on Thursday and Math and Social Studies will be on Friday. For 6th grade, these tests will just be chapter/unit tests. For math, the test will cover the first part of unit 2 as well as some concepts from unit 1. Students can use their study guides, old quizzes, and old tests to prepare for the exam. The "I Can Statements", under the extra practice tab, are always a good source of extra practice. Today students are finishing up their unit 1 test. Look for this test to come home in the next day or two. Infinite Campus will also be updated in the next day or two to reflect this test grade. Be sure to check Infinite Campus because Wednesday's progress report grade does not reflect this assessment.
We will begin unit 2 (Rational Numbers) tomorrow. The unit 2 study guide was passed out today. This study guide is meant to be a work in progress. Students should complete portions of the study guide as topics are presented in class. Students will have approximately 4 weeks in which to complete the study guide. The study guide is also posted under the corresponding tab. I have also posted "I can statements" for unit 2. This is not an assignment that I will take up for a grade, but it can be used at home as another means of studying. In class, students will learn to classify numbers in the Real Number system as either being rational or irrational. We will also sub-divide rational numbers into integers, whole numbers, and natural numbers. Notes for this topic can be found in your child's spiral notebook. Tutoring this week will also be on Thursday. I will be out for a professional day with other AC math teachers on Wednesday. Tutoring will be on Thursday the 10th this week instead of Wednesday the 9th. Students will need to make sure they bring with them what they are wanting to work on. Tutoring ends at 3:30 and students should be picked up in the front of the building. Please let me know if your child plans on staying.
