This Friday, the 20th, marks the end of the semester; therefore, exams are planned for Wednesday and Thursday. 4th and 6th periods will test on Wednesday and 3rd and 5th periods will test on Thursday.  The exam will cover all concepts covered so far in
unit 3. The topics that will be covered from unit 3 can be found in parts A, B, and C on the unit 3 study guide. Students could also see questions from previous units so students should look over their unit 1 and 2 tests and study guides also.

Students should be spending at least 30 per week logging into their Study Island accounts and completing the review lessons I have assigned. As lessons are completed with at least an 85%, students earn blue ribbons. Students earning the most amount of blue ribbons by the end of April will participate in a pizza/ice cream party. Working in Study Island is a weekly requirement.

This week we are wrapping up exponents, with positive and negative bases, and then reviewing Order of Operations. The students will then participate in activities to reinforce simplifying expressions by using the Order of Operations (GEMDAS). A quiz is planned for later in the week (Thursday or Friday depending on how well the students perform in class). The quiz will cover parts A and B of the study guide. The Unit 3 study guide will go home on Tuesday so students may use it as a means of preparing for the quiz. After quizzing, I will teach the parts of an expression and how to write algebraic expressions. Notes for these concepts can be found in the students' spiral notebooks.

The week will begin with the second round of MAPS testing. This is a test given three times a year to measure student growth over the course of the year. The test does not affect students' averages.

The Unit 2B test will be returned on Tuesday along with the Test Analysis. The test analysis portion is due Friday. Students may attend Jag Academy on Tuesday and Thursday to work on their test analysis. A retest will be offered for Unit 2B. To be eligible to take the retest, students must also complete the test correction portion of the test analysis. The test corrections are also due by Friday and may be worked on during Jag Academy. The retest will be offered after Thanksgiving break during Jag Academy.

After MAPS testing, we will begin unit 3: expressions. The unit begins by introducing exponents with both positive and negative bases and order of operations. The new study guide will be handed out after Thanksgiving break. As with previous units, the study guide should completed during the course of the unit as topics are presented in class. The answers will be posted here to Weebly.

This week we are finishing up, reviewing, and testing over unit 2. The unit 2 study guide is due on Thursday. All problems should be completed along with making sure all answers are correct by checking with the answer key here on Weebly. The unit 2 test will be given on Friday. I will also complete a spiral check on Friday, so students should make sure their notebooks are ready to be graded. A copy of the spiral can be found on Microsoft One Note for the students to use as a comparison.

The adding and subtracting integers quiz will be returned on Tuesday.. Students who struggled with this quiz are being pulled during Jag Academy on Tuesday to thoroughly go over the quiz and identify mistakes to prepare for the test on Friday.

This week we are continuing our study of adding and subtracting integers. On Monday and Tuesday, the students will participate in a couple of review activities to prepare for a quiz coming later this week (hopefully Wednesday). This quiz will cover Part B of the study guide as well as #'s 68-73. I will also add in some problem-solving on the coordinate plane from the first half of the unit as a review. The last part of the week will be spent discovering how to multiply and divide integers.

Jag Academy will be used to tutor those students who struggled with the Unit 2A test and to work on the test analysis that is due on Friday. All students must complete the analysis portion, but corrections are optional. For each problem correctly corrected, I will add one point to the original test grade. The test is being returned on Monday, so you may help your students with corrections if needed.

On Tuesday, 12-week progress reports will come home. Please sign and return those as quickly as possible.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we will review and wrap up the basics of graphing on the coordinate plane. A quiz over this material will be given on Thursday. By Thursday, #'s 78-86 on the study guide should be completed and checked.

The remainder of the week will be spent digging deeper with graphing on the coordinate plane. Students will be expected to solve problems including distance, area, and perimeter using points graphed on the coordinate. All notes can be found in the students' spirals or in their class notebooks on Microsoft One Note.

The first part of the week we are wrapping up integers and absolute value. By Wednesday, students should have Part A of the study guide completed and checked. A quiz will be given on Wednesday that will cover concepts presented in Part A of the study guide. We will spend the remainder of the week studying the fours quadrants of the coordinate plane and graphing points on the coordinate plane. Notes for these standards can be found in the students' spiral notebooks.

Next week, October 7th - 14th, is fall break. Students will return to school on Tuesday, October 15th. When we return, we will continue our study of the coordinate plane.
