On Monday, students are taking a pop quiz over percents. The material comes from Part C of the study guide. The students were given hints about the pop quiz beginning last Thursday and were told the questions would be similar to Part C.

We will spend the remainder of the week learning to identify independent and dependent variables as well as being able to translate back and forth between tables, graphs, and equations. This material comes from Part D of the study guide. Students can also begin completing #'s 65-73 of the study guide. These questions are more open-ended and require students to really apply what has been learned in class.

Students should continue to log at least 30 minutes in Study Island each week.

Quizzes from last week will be returned this week. Students should bring them home to share with their parents.

This week we are continuing our study of proportions. We will learn how to use proportions to solve real-life situations and how to use them to solve problems involving percents. A POP QUIZ will be given at some point this week, so students need to make sure they are completing their homework each night and reviewing their study guide so they are prepared for the next day.  Proportion notes can be found in the students' spirals and in their One Note notebooks. The quiz will be similar to Part B of the study guide.

Students should continue to log at least 30 minutes in Study Island each week.

This week we are wrapping up the basics of ratios, rates, and unit rates and quizzing on Wednesday. The quiz will be similar to problems on Part A of the Unit 5 Study Guide. We will then begin learning how to write and solve proportions. Notes for these concepts can be found in the students' spirals and in the students' notebook in One Note.

Students should continue to log at least 30 minutes in Study Island each week.

Progress reports go home on Tuesday, the 25th.

The Unit 4 test was returned today. Students should bring it home to share. Test Analysis sheets will come home on Thursday. They are due on Monday, the 24th. If students would like the opportunity to retest, they must complete test corrections as well as the analysis. Jag Academy will be used on Thursday to remediate unit 4 and to help students with test corrections. The retest will be given next week during Jag Academy. More info to come...

This week we are digging into Unit 5: Ratios and Proportions by learning what ratios are and how to write them We will also learn how to calculate unit rates and how to use them in everyday life. The Unit 5 study guide will go home later this week. Once received, students should begin working on the study guide as concepts are covered in class.

Progress reports are coming home on Tuesday, the 25th.

Students should continue to log at least 30 minutes per week in Study Island.

This week we are finishing up inequalities and testing over unit 4. The unit 4 study guide is due on Tuesday. The study guide should be completed and checked by Tuesday. The test will be given on Wednesday. Students will have a chance to have study guide concerns addressed on Tuesday. I will also conduct a spiral check on Wednesday. To help students study, I have posted some extra practice for the test. The extra practice is entitled "I Can Statements for Unit 4" and "Inequalities Practice Problems". These problems are posted under the Extra Practice tab at the top of the page. I have also included the answer keys.

Thursday we will begin unit 5: Ratios, Rates, and Proportional Reasoning. The unit begins with identifying and writing ratios and rates.

Students should continue to log at least 30 minutes in Study Island.

This week we are finishing up one step equations by quizzing on Tuesday. The quiz will be very similar to Part A of the study guide. The remainder of the week will be spent learning how to write and solve inequalities. Notes and examples can be found in the students' spiral notebooks. We will finish up this unit mid week of next week and be ready to test, so students need to stay on top of their study guides. They should steadily be working on them and checking them this week. More test details will be coming soon.

Students should continue to log at least 30 minutes per week on Study Island completing the review units assigned to them.

This week we are continuing to solve one-step equations with rational numbers. Students must focus on showing all steps making sure to keep the equation balanced at all times. In learning to solve equations, students will also be learning to write equations from word problems using key words and phrases to decide what operation should be used in the equation. A quiz will be given on these topics at the end of the week. I will post the exact date on the board later in the week as I monitor students' understanding.

As for unit 3 remediation, I will be using Jag Academy this week to help those students who struggled with the unit 3 test. Tuesday will be used for students to get help and/or to complete their test analysis/corrections. Thursday students may retest. In order to retest, students must see me to have their agenda stamped and complete test corrections.

Students should continue to log at least 30 minutes per week in Study Island.

Tuesday will be spent reviewing for the Unit 3 test being given on Wednesday. In addition to the in class review, I am sending home an additional practice sheet entitled "Simplifying 101". This handout is not required, but would be really great practice for reviewing the most recently learned standards on the test. The answers are posted under "Study Guides/Extra Practice here on Weebly. I am also posting the in class review, in the same area, for students who may want to go over it again at home In addition to testing on Wednesday, students will also have a Unit 3 spiral check.

Thursday we are beginning Unit 4: Equations and Inequalities. We will begin by learning to solve one-step equations by making sure we keep the equation balanced at all times like a see saw on the playground. This unit will only last about two weeks, so it is important that students keep up with their study guides. Study guides will be given out later this week, so look for them to come home. Answers to the study guide will also be posted here to Weebly later this week.

This week we are finishing up unit 3 by continuing to identify and generate equivalent expressions. Students will be asked to demonstrate their understanding of this concept by quizzing on Tuesday (This is the quiz that was scheduled for the end of last week). We will wrap up the week by learning to simplify expressions by using the distributive property and combining like terms, so we may test early next week. Since Monday is a holiday, I anticipate testing on Wednesday, the 22nd. Students will also have a spiral check on the 22nd. Study guides are due Tuesday, the 21st. Answers are posted here to Weebly for the students' benefit.

Students should continue to spend at least 30 minutes per week completing the assigned lessons in Study Island. Students earn a blue ribbon when they score at least 85% on the practice lesson.

Semester exams will be returned Tuesday. It is important for students to review over this exam at home and make corrections because a majority of the test covered standards from Unit 3 that will be covered on the Unit 3 test that will be given in a couple of weeks. During the remainder of the week, we will continue our study of the distributive property and use this property to write and identify equivalent expressions. A quiz over the distributive property, identifying and creating equivalent expressions, and evaluating expressions is planned for the end of the week. Practice questions for these concepts can be found in the students' Unit 3 Study Guide.

Students are still required to spend at least 30 minutes per week on Study Island. Students are expected to work through the review lessons and earn blue ribbons as they reach 85% mastery.

Report cards will go home on Tuesday the 7th.
